Material guide

Nylon for replacement-part manufacturing

Nylon material families can be valuable for demanding functional parts, especially where toughness, fatigue behavior, or wear matter. The exact nylon, manufacturing process, moisture conditioning, and geometry all change the result.

Where Nylon can make sense

  • Useful toughness and fatigue behavior in appropriate grades
  • Can suit moving or mechanically demanding components
  • Multiple nylon families and processes allow different performance tradeoffs

What we still check

  • Moisture absorption changes dimensions and properties
  • The word nylon does not identify a single material specification
  • Process, reinforcement, orientation, and conditioning can materially affect performance
Material family names are not complete engineering specifications. Grade, process, orientation, geometry, environment, and verification evidence can materially change performance.
